This is a big no no!
Some people take up smoking because they think it helps them lose weight, but after a while they become dependent of it and cannot quit!
I know a teacher of mine smoked a lot and wanted to quit. he gained a lot of weight and realized it was because everytime she needed to smoke she ate something and became fat.
She started smoking again and lost her weight... but she was very sad because she felt better when she was not smoking.
What do you think about this?
I hope you share my ideas, starting to smoke is NOT a solution to lose weight.

Why do you post this it in here?
I don’t see any connections to of this thread to this forum. This is about the other methods to loose some weight and your thread is about how to get fat by smoking. Do you see any resemblance to these two?

Some people think that smoking might help them loose weight, so I think this thread is in the correct forum.
I have never tried smoking myself, and never will.....

I do think there is a reason for the thread: a lot of people said that smoking kept them thin and not smoking anymore made them fat. But even if it would be a way to keep thin, it's very very unhealthy and should not be seen as a means to lose weight or keep a good body. Smoking is so wrong and more people should just stop doing this. It's totally unhealthy and the problem is that it is addictive.

Even if most of my friends are scared of stopping smoking since they'd get fat, I always tell them to do so. If you keep a good diet and not start eating sweets to fill in that craving for a cigar, plus you do some sports, then it's not a problem. I was a smoker too years ago and the best thing I did was quit smoking.
Using smoking as a weight controll method? NO NO.

Are you guys saying that smoking is just like taking some drugs because you will get high on drugs and will forget about eating. This is the only way I see how smoking can reduce some fat. Can anyone please explain how the process is?

I have a colleague at work that smokes a lot in the morning (half a pack). She lost many pounds, but I don't think it's healthy for her. She's now quite skinny, I always try to convince her to stop smoking. She was very fat as a child and she didn't like it at all. If you smoke to lose weight, you'll probably catch a stomach disease, that's my opinion. Say a big NO to cigars.

I don't smoke, I never have, but I have several friends and family members who smoke. Several believe that they would put on weight if they stopped. Smoking can ruin your health and shorten your life, but as far as I know it is not fattening. People who give up smoking say they need to occupy their hands, at the times when they would previously reach for a cigarette they are now tempted to reach for a chocolate biscuit or a sweet. I think that is why some people who give up put on weight.

You're right. My mother quit smoking after decades of using (or abusing, more precisely) cigars. She gained 20 pounds in just three months, so, yes, if you quit smoking you'll probably gain weight. It's normal. It was the same case with my father, he too gained weight rather quickly. Because smoking burns calories, metabolism is boosted for a short period of time. You should worry only if this period gets longer and longer. Also, it's the nicotine factor. It is well known that nicotine suppresses the appetite.

Yes , I really share your ideas. I smoked , I started to smoke cause I thought I will loose in weight , I became dependent and…. I didn`t loose at all in weight. So think twice before starting smoking , you`ll never know how will react your body. Smoking is not a solution , try to avoid it!

My mother in law smoked all her adult life and she refused to take notice of the health warnings. Now she has a smoking related disease which will kill her. She is only just over 60 and she is a complete wreck, she is missing out on her grandchildren because she can't go out or move around freely. She is just existing, not living. Smoking has a cost, for you and for your family.

I don't smoke, never have (well, I've tried it, but I'm not a smoker) and most certainly never will. It is true that smoking helps people to loose weight, but the cost is too high: your health. Seeing that there are other methods that are healthy, I think smoking shouldn't be considered trying for this purpose.

It makes me especially sad when I see young people smoking. Years ago people didn't know the dangers of smoking, but now we know what it can do to us. Surely no one would really think it was worth smoking in order to avoid eating or to suppress their appetite.
