:) I've never loved math anyway! What's the point of counting calories? It's the "placebo" effect..."oh yes, I ate a 100 calorie cookie yesterday, now I'm going to compensate and eat a cheeseburger! perfect!" I have colleagues at work that are obsessed with calories. They even ask for nutrition information at restaurants. I think it's just for boasting...seriously!

I don't count calories, but I do have a basic idea of what is good and what is bad in terms of calories and fat content. I think it is not so much about calorie counting as eating healthy foods in moderation. My grandma used to say 'a little of what you fancy does you good'.

I once read an article in which it said calorie counting actually often hinders the dieting process. This is because of the psychology involved. People tend to eat a lot of things with low calories rather than eating few things with relatively "high" calories.

I try to have a general idea about the calories of certain products, but I don't really like counting calories because I consider the process to be a waste of time... Besides, I'm not to fond of math...
flutemj, I would be curious to know how your grandmother defined "a little" ...:D

I never count the calories , I hae this thing:P , I`m trying to eat healthy , a lot of fruits and it`s enough for me. I`m careful when I eat and it`s ok for me .My mother is obsessed with calories , I can`t belive when I see her counting all the time .

My mother is like that, too! Maybe not "obsessed", but extremely concerned. ;) One reason I hate calorie counting is because it takes all the enjoyment out of eating.

You should count portions rather than calories. I'd probably go mad if I counted each and every calorie. I think it's necessary to eat less than you burn, that's the most important thing. I've seen so many calorie counting web sites on the internet nowadays...it's a mass hysteria.

Many people who are very diligent in their calorie counting actually don't progress that well. If you're just looking at calories, it's easy to miss out on healthy food and get way less nutrition than you're supposed to.

I never count the calories when I’m eating some foods simply because I don’t know how much calories each food has. Does anyone know about how much a calorie does each food has? I think that it will be long list because there are lots of foods around us.

I have counted calories before, I tend to cut back too much when I count calories, though. I always figure, well if 1300 calories is this good, what if I dice it down even more? It's important to never go below 1200 calories a day, though!

I don't count calories, but I do always look at the calorie contenet on a package of food before I buy it at the food store.
